The season got underway for our 1st XI at long last this past week. On Tuesday we entertained Watsonians at Inverleith in the first match of a series of 16 a side over games between the East Premier clubs based in Edinburgh – all played to Covid safe protocols. Batting first we made 85 for 7 off our 16 overs and with Watsonians at 25 for 3 off 4 overs we seemed well in the game. At that point the skies darkened and with 11 runs added in the fifth over as the rain began to descend Watsonians were ahead by 7 runs on Duckworth-Lewis when the start of the night’s thunderstorm brought proceedings to a very wet end.
On Saturday Heriot’s visited for the first of the 40 over a side series being played between the same sides and finished convincing winners passing Stew Mel’s total of 108 for nine in 25.3 overs for the loss of only two wickets.
